The New World of School Leadership Conference

Friday, February 10th, 2012

An inspiring and information packed Conference held at the Copthorne Hotel this Thursday and easily one of the most  Educationally Creative days I’ve ever attended!

Many thanks to Noel Dunne at Creative Alliance (www.creativealliance.org.uk) for “squeezing” me in at the 11th hour, and a huge thank you for all the organisers involved at the hotel and with The New World of School Leadership event itself.

Brilliant discussions presented by Professor Mick Waters, Charles Leadbeater and Paul Collard (Creativity, Culture and Education, NGO) made the day such a great event!

I hope that the attending School Heads had the “light-bulb” moments go on in the way some of us Industry Practitioners did.

Another great day at Moseley Secondary School!

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

70 pupils took their seats today for a bombardment of new and unusual ways of looking at creativity! My talks are usually a non stop information stream of fresh perspectives, showing people how to draw if they don’t think they can combined with motivational ideas, imagery and ways of looking at the world and design afresh. Today was no exception.

I have presented at Moseley School on several occasions to date, and bumped into some old “victims!” who told me they still used my ideas when the time came to be creative. Very encouraging!

Here’s looking to the spring term time when I’m going back in again, and many thanks once again to all teachers involved!

(Amazing how much attention something as simple as a coke can, can hold!)

Sometimes genius is quiet!

Friday, October 14th, 2011

I posted a while ago about the video for the track ”White Knuckles”  by group OK GO. Have a look at the making of clip below the video underneath, it just goes to show how many people and how much effort go into realising creative ideas!

(The video that was finally broadcast was ultimately captured on camera in one take after several weeks of rehearsal, the footage of the take starts around 6:30 into the clip)

Is Creative Britain in Reverse?

As the UK government reviews the national curriculum and design technology’s status as a compulsory school subject, the Design & Technology Association, the James Dyson Foundation and industrial designers Seymourpowell have started a campaign to secure the future of design and technology education.

A key part of the campaign is this movie featuring industry experts and leading designers talking about the importance of design education. Contributors include fashion designer Paul Smith, Jaguar design director Ian Callum, Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic, Design Council chief executive David Kester and the founders of Seymourpowell.

Stunning Advert for Touchwood Phones…

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

A beautiful advert for the Touch Wood SH-08C mobile phone from Japanese mobile phone operator NTT Docomo. The ad features a xylophone rendition of  ”Joy of Man’s Desiring” by JS Bach, played by a wooden ball rolling down a purpose-built xylophone in the middle of a forest…

The ad was developed at Drill Inc Tokyo, by creative director Morihiro Harano and the xylophone was designed and construced by Kenjiro Matsuo at Invisible Designs Lab, Fukuoka.

Richard Allport Q3

Wednesday evening saw the opening of Q3 pupil designed “in animi sonus” music and visual fused installation.

Invited guests were treated to a surreal exploration of students’ emotions, feelings and thoughts on life, expressed through sound-scapes, visual imagery and some bizarre props, all installed in spot lit darkness.

Sarah Mellors, Deputy Head of Q3 Academy commented:

“Never in my time at Q3 Academy have I ever seen anything like this, amazing work! I felt an array of emotions from sadness to joy, amazing maturity to vulnerability. I am overwhelmed!”

Creative Partnerships and Q3 Academy are considering potential plans for a public viewing of the installation next month and repetition of the event annually.

Special thanks go to Miss Burroughs, Miss Mellors and Mr Dawson for their assistance and enthusiasm on this project.

Easy Art Pro joins the Anti- Bullying campaign…

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Richard Allport Cyber Bullying

On the back of Q3 Academy’s Young Enterprise team winning a special recognition award for their anti bullying campaign idea, and after incredibly insightful recent talks with the Police Force, Childline and other organisations committed to ending bullying and crime levels within schools, we are pleased to announce the development, with advice directly gathered from these and other organisations, of elements within all creative modules we deliver that will investigate and analyse why bullying exists and how it can be tackled.

Special attention is also being given over the following weeks to develop stand alone, character-based creative modules where pupils can create virtual characters who interact with bullies, and learn coping and self-esteem raising strategies especially where “Cyber- Bullying” is concerned.

In an article on the BBC’s Live News Internet channel, Schools Secretary Ed Balls said cyber bullying had grown with technology and changes in society.

He added “”Cyber-bullying is a particularly insidious type of bullying as it can follow young people wherever they go…We now have an advanced approach to cyber bullying, thanks in no small part to the co-operation with the industry, teaching unions and charities.”

The guide being sent out to schools in England says Cyber bullying can be an extension of face-to-face bullying, “with technology providing the bully with another route to harass their target”.

Among the new guidance are tips for drawing up anti-bullying policies to cover cyber bullying, how to have offensive or malicious material removed from websites, and advice on confiscating equipment used in bullying, such as mobile phones.

At Easy Art Pro we are pleased to be working parallel with Government led initiatives to tackle issues like this that can disrupt a person’s education or feeling of safety.

Watch this space for more information about the new modules available for schools; new information will be posted as soon as it is available.
