Headcast info…

A few people had asked a while ago about lifecasting, or making a mould then casting it, from someones face, hands or even whole body. They also wanted to see some more pictures of the headcast I did at Bentley Chemicals with Rob Price.

Here you go!

Bob Keen and 35 years in film

Richard Allport Artist Bob Keen films

After several enquiries from teachers and students about Bob Keen’s new involvement in Easy Art Pro, and interest in his work history, I thought I’d post a selection of film posters from his illustrious career.

His pedigree and prestige on these feature film releases is a clear indication of his abilities and standing within the industry and as an international creator and innovator.

Design me a Dragon animatronic puppet develops…

Richard Allport Design me a Dragon dev

If you’ve noticed things have been quiet for a while in this news section, its partly because sculpting 2000 scales takes a bit of time!

The 4-foot Dragon head for next term’s workshops has gone from a simple mock up through to finished sculpture ready for moulding.

Shown above is the head and neck in stages of sculptural development, and when cast will have mechanics to make its eyelids blink, nostrils sniff and ears twitch in addition to it gurgling smoke and spitting 5-foot jets of fire from its mouth!

Check back here for continuing progress!

Easy Art Pro welcomes Bob Keen on board!

Richard Allport Bob Keen 001

After a recent working lunch at the beautiful Saxon Mill Restaurant in rural Warwickshire, I am pleased to announce Film industry and Special Effects legend Bob Keen is joining Easy Art Pro.

His Biog reads like an encyclopaedia of film history and he brings with him an unparalleled level of experience, uniquely distinct creative edge and a multi discipline knowledge base that will make him a truly invaluable member of the company!

His enthusiasm for inspiring creativity within others at many levels will help boost the Easy Art Pro presentations and training aids content to an even higher level.

I am so pleased that not only a great creative mentor of his calibre, but also a great friend has joined the fold! Watch this space for further news.

(Pictured above, Bob on the set of Return of the Jedi (second from left), applying prosthetics with the “uber” talented Dave Bonneywell and standing with SFX legend Stuart Freeborn, now in his nineties, the original creator of Yoda.)

E.M.A Models

ema_logo

Just a quick note on the back of my receiving my clear hemispheres from EMA models today, for the Australia monster’s eyes (See below), to say what a great company they are. Most of my time in the film industry was spent making things from their brilliant range of creative model making products. The people there are very nice too and ship your order very fast!

Australia Day Monster sculpture prep art…

Richard Allport Australia Monster Design001

After the success of Australia day at two Sandwell schools recently, I was inspired to sculpt the monster that the map shape turned into (See a couple of posts below). Based on this creature here is the first of several images created to allow the process of sculpting the form in 3D to begin. Further posts will show the progress so check back from time to time.

Rich: Hello

Andy: Hi…it’s Andy, could you come over to Bentley Chemicals and cover my head in rubber?

Rich: Ok! Now?

Andy: Yes please, I want a head cast of myself to sculpt on!

Rich: No problem, see you in a bit…

A fun few hours at Bentley Chemicals doing a head cast of Andy Brown using body double and 4420 silicone! Many thanks to Emma Clayton for helping out and taking loads of snaps and Rob Price for letting us use his workshop and picking his brain!
